Today, over 10 million women are struggling with eating disorders in the US, that's more than the number of women suffering from breast cancer. Reflections: Body Image Program seeks to end the epidemic and eliminate this statistic for the next generation of women.
Tri Delta and The Center for Living, Learning & Leading co-developed Reflections with Dr. Carolyn Becker of Trinity University, and the local sororities on Trinity's campus. Reflections is the first peer-led, evidence-based eating disorders prevention program shown to truly work, but the program does not focus solely on eating disorders. Reflections emphasizes creating and reaffirming positive and healthy personal body image through a variety of structured discussions, activities, and exercises.
Tri Delta believes its support of this ground-breaking program is an important step in confronting the thin-ideal standard of beauty that often contributes to body dissatisfaction among women. Reflections has resulted in numerous scientific publications and presentations and has contributed substantially to the literature on cognitive dissonance-based eating disorders prevention. This program represents a unique collaboration between academic psychology and sororities, and it suggests that sororities represent a powerful partner in the dissemination of evidence-based eating disorders prevention programs to women. The program is the first and only body image education program formally endorsed by the Academy for Eating Disorders.
